Coach's Office Pre-Drawn Plays for the Chalkboard

Our team is pleased to present its first set of plays for your FREE use in both the Pro and Youth editions of the Coach's Office Chalkboard Module.

Many coaches have asked us if we have "standard" plays already drawn in the Chalkboard. There are many types of offenses and defenses being used out there, but we have some recommendations of where to start. Our goal is to save you even more time than you already are by using Coach's Office.

Coach's Office Chalkboard-Ready Formations/Plays

West Coast Offense - 164 Plays

This set consists of 164 chalkboard-ready plays, including 16 formations, 17 base runs, 23 step dropback passes, 12 action passes, 8 screens, 16 goal line runs and passes, 8 red zone passes, 8 audibles vs. blitz, and 56 pass plays. This is not all the available plays, but an excellent representation of many of them. These plays are available by download only.

23 Playbook Pages
We created the plays in the Chalkboard and then placed them in the Playbook. This is the easiest way to give you the option of selecting which plays to save to the Chalkboard without overwriting your Chalkboard database file. The plays then become part of your existing Chalkboard, along with your previously drawn plays.

Also, the Youth Edition users can only see 50 plays in the Chalkboard and would not be able to see the 164 plays in a Chalkboard file, but by placing them in the Playbook, everyone can see all the plays.

Download & Installation Instructions - for Windows XP

Requirements & Recommendations for Getting Started
These files require Coach's Office version 2.01.

Back up your current Chalkboard and Playbook database files to an external drive. Do not continue without doing this step.

  • For more information on how to perform this task, see our online video.

The online video tutorial requires high-speed. The option to launch the tutorial is included in the automatic setup program. If you don't have high-speed, the instructions are listed below as well in print format.

Click here to view/print the Playbook PDF with the 24 total pages of the West Coast Offense plays and names.

Download

  • Click here to download the westcoast.exe file.
    • Save the file to your desktop.
  • When the download is complete, double click the westcoast.exe file to launch the auto setup program. This does not work with Windows Vista*.
    • Setup will create a new folder in Program Files -> coachsoffice called WestCoastOffense.
    • Setup will write the file Playbook.mdb to the WestCoastOffense folder.
  • Play the online video tutorial (high-speed required) for instructions or follow the written instructions below.

Redirect the Playbook to the WestCoast Folder

  • Open Coach's Office.
  • Redirect the Coach's Office Playbook Module to the WestCoastOffense folder.
    • This step involves an administrator's feature used mostly by NFL and university network systems administrators.
    • Right click the Playbook icon on the Coach's Office desktop.
    • The utility window displays with the location of the Playbook currently being used by Coach's Office.
      • Write down the drive and folder path where your Coach's Office Playbook.mdb file is located. You'll need to come back to this location after the plays are copied to the Chalkboard.
        • Most coaches have their files in the default location of Local Disk C -> Program Files -> coachsoffice.
        • If your database files are on a server, write the exact drive and folder path.
    • Find the path: Local Disk C/Program Files/coachsoffice/WestCoastOffice.
      • If your Playbook file is in the default location, the coachsoffice folder is already open.
        • Double click the WestCoastOffense folder shown under the coachsoffice folder.
      • If your Playbook file is on a network drive, browse to find Local Disk C.
        • In the browse line at the top of the window, click the down arrow, and click the Local Disk C.
        • All the folders of Local Disk C display in the window.
        • Double click Program Files.
        • Double click coachsoffice.
        • Double click WestCoastOffense.
      • In the bottom white bar, the name Playbook.mdb displays, showing there is a playbook database file in this folder.
    • Click the Playbook.mdb name in the bottom white box. The highlight will turn the background blue.
    • Click OK.
    • The Coach's Office program now sees this Playbook.

Save the Plays to the Chalkboard

Coach's Office is now pointing to the new West Coast Offense Playbook file.

    • Open the Playbook Module.
      • You'll see one chapter and 23 pages.
    • Choose the play to save to the Chalkboard.
      • Zoom in if desired to see the plays enlarged.
      • Click the play box tool and select the box of the play to be saved in the Chalkboard.
        • An example of how to do this is covered in our Playbook online video in the Edit Plays section.
        • You will find the PDF print out helpful in identifying the plays you want to save.
    • Launch the Chalkboard.
      • With the play box selected, click the Load Chalkboard icon in the tool bar.
      • The Chalkboard opens with the play and its name displayed.
    • Save the play.
      • Click the Save a Formation tool.
      • Click the offense box at the left.
      • Name the play or leave the name as it is.
        • We added a two-letter prefix with an underscore for each section of plays to make it easier to place them in the Playbook pages. For example, red zone is "rz_" and pass plays is "pp_." You may want to delete those characters or use something else.
      • Click OK.
    • Return to the Playbook.
      • Click the Playbook icon in the top right of the Chalkboard screen.
      • Select another play and continue until finished.
    • Redirect the Playbook back to the original playbook folder.

Redirect the Playbook to Original Location

  • Return to the Coach's Office desktop.
  • Right click the Playbook icon.
  • In the utility window, browse to find your original Playbook.mdb file location using the path your wrote down earlier.
  • When you double click the final folder where the database file is located, the file name displays in the bottom white bar.
    • Click the Playbook.mdb file name to highlight it.
    • Click OK.
  • Coach's Office now sees your original Playbook.mdb file.
    • To test if you successfully redirected the file, launch the Playbook Module to see your original Playbook.

Make Edits

  • Now that the plays are part of your original Chalkboard file, you can make edits to the players and routes as well as insert them into the Playbook and add text instructions.
    • To learn how to add text instructions to the Playbook plays, see our online video tutorial: Playbook - More Features - The Text Box.

Mistakes
Yes, it is possible (even likely!) that we've made mistakes - especially when drawing plays and answering calls from coaches at the same time. So when you find something we messed up, kindly make the correction, and remember that our goal is to give you a head start on drawing your plays.

Replace Current Chalkboard and/or Playbook Files with West Coast Offense - Instructions for Windows XP
You can also replace your current Chalkboard and/or Playbook files with the complete set of West Coast Offense files. This will overwrite your current files - whatever you have in your file will be lost. However, some coaches who are newly purchasing Coach's Office may want to start fresh with the West Coast Offense files in the chalkboard and playbook and then add their own plays. If this is what you'd like to do, follow the instructions below.

Chalkboard File - formation.mdb

  • If you have plays in your chalkboard file (formation.mdb) that you may want to use later, make a backup of your formation.mdb file. New users won't need to do this.
  • Close the Coach's Office program.
  • Click here to download the formation.mdb file to be used by your chalkboard module.
    • Save the formation.mdb file to Local Drive C -> Program Files -> coachsoffice.
      • Windows Vista does not have a Program Files folder. Save directly in the Local Drive C/coachsoffice folder.
    • A message says that the formation.mdb file already exist, and do you want to replace it. Click "yes" that you want to replace the existing file.
    • The file downloads, replacing your formation.mdb file.
    • Close the window.
  • Open Coach's Office and go to the chalkboard. The West Coast Offense file loads.

Playbook File - playbook.mdb

  • If you have plays in your playbook (playbook.mdb) that you may want to use later, make a backup of your formation.mdb file. New users won't need to do this.
  • Close the Coach's Office program.
  • Click here to download the playbook.mdb file to be used by your playbook module.
    • Save the playbook.mdb file to Local Drive C -> Program Files -> coachsoffice.
      • Windows Vista does not have a Program Files folder. Save directly in the Local Drive C/coachsoffice folder.
    • A message says that the playbook.mdb file already exist, and do you want to replace it. Click "yes" that you want to replace the existing file.
    • The file downloads, replacing your playbook.mdb file.
    • Close the window.
  • Open Coach's Office and go to the playbook. The West Coast Offense file loads.

*Windows Vista

The Vista computer does not have a Program Files folder - everything is saved to the Local Drive C root directory. For Coach's Office, the folder location is: Local Drive C/coachsoffice.
